Terry Lee Brown Jr.

For years Terry Lee Brown Jr. has been considered as a member of the international elite of House producers, and like no other, he has developed the subgenre Tech-House. In the USA and England his first two albums became successes of note and the media got a surprise when they found out Mr. Brown is actually a German.

Terry Lee Brown Jr, alias Norman Feller, began DJing in 1989 and soon thereafter released his first tracks on vinyl under various pseudonyms. 1994 was the turning point for Norman when he decided to dedicate himself totally to music In the following year he invented the house-oriented project (alter-ego) Terry Lee Brown Jr. which allowed him to create his own sound. Plastic City, which was at that time still a very young label, offered Terry an outlet for his music and he has stayed true to this label ever since

After the success of his first 12 releases came his debut Album Brother For Real in spring of 1996. This release was a true milestone for Tech-House and incorporated elements of Jungle, Trance and Easy Listening. The public response to Brother For Real was gigantic, and not limited to scenesters. Muzik (12/96), England’s most respected dance music magazine chose Brother For Real as one of the top ten albums of 1996 (along with albums from artists like DJ Shadow, Fugees, Underworld and Faithless). Marshall Jefferson, the Chicago House legend, honored Terry in an album review by simply stating ;He is God(Raveline 11/1996).

In fall of 1997 Terry’s second album Chocolate Chords garnered further praise and matched the success of Bother For Real. In America Mixmag chose this second effort as one of the top 5 albums of the year.

Today Terry Lee Brown Junior is one of the most happening and respected House Artists around. This is probably due to the passion and love he invests in his uncompromising productions and mix sets. His albums and mix CDs have shown the world that House music not only works on the dancefloor, but also in a comfy chair.

Lukas Greenberg

Nicolas Jakoby a.k.a. Lukas Greenberg definitely is no newcomer in the electronic music scene. He started his career in the early 90ies as a hip hop dj, become 1994 a techno & house dj and played at famous venues like the tresor, 90Grad and KitKat. Quite a lot residencies and years of dance floor experience brought him to own productions which he started on an Atari Mega 2. He founded his label “Synphon Records” and received remix requests from Peter Schilling amongst others. It’s easy to see that after more than ten years in the business his musical background is based on a broad variety of influences and styles – so is his music and what else than Plastic City could be the perfect platform for the height of his creativity. Last year he had his first appearance at “Play Plastic City” and his debut EP “Behind Doors” earlier this year drew attention to this fantastic musician, producer and DJ.
The “Rhode’stories” again verify his sense for high quality listening stuff: He rolls out his musical range while connecting all tracks like writing a book. He produced several introductions for the “chapters” and after listening the whole album one is convinced about a theory behind the compilation of the songs. He rides on a wave of downbeat, electro, house, easy listening and some more ingredients which make you feel comfortable about listening to the “Stories” again and again. This is an outstanding collection of tracks – influenced by people, life and musical history and hits bulls eye aiming at the Plastic City philosophy.

On the 2008 EP “Relations” you can find 4 new tracks with a wide musical range.

Babak Shayan

Babak Shayan was born in Teheran, Iran in 1973. Due to the effects of the Iran-Iraq war, Babak came to Germany in 1985.His love to music started in the early days of his childhood with artists such as Depeche Mode, Yello, but thanks to his new residence, the music that was avantgarde then became accessible for him. He went into heavy music collecting, making it possible to experience the concept of DJing just one year later: beginning in 1986, he spread mixtapes among his schoolmates and was soon a requested DJ for an audience that was much more older than he himself. He played in clubs where he would not have been allowed to enter because of his age.

Consequently, his love for music lead him on the way to creating music. In 1998, he got the gear to get some tracks done and after gaining some experience in that field, Babak had his first release on the renowned TechHouse imprint Plastic City. His first Dualists productions found their way into the cases of many DJs and many compilations and propelled him to the top of Germany’s techhouse scene. While being on the producer’s side, he did not forget about DJing and while he developed the musical concept for Heidelberg’s Bar1, it was plain to see that a conserved form of his DJ sets there would find a broad audience. The Bar1 compilation series was born and Babak’s reputation as dj,producer and skilled arranger sky rocketed after the appearance of his reknowned Bar1-Mix-CD. The success story continues as the mix CD heads into volume 7 while having a strong impact on the deep Techhouse sound over the years.

The Timewriter

Jean Frank Cochois aka The Timewriter was born into a family where music played a vital part in everyday life. From the age of 13 on, he got trained in classical music and was sent to a music boarding school. Soon he started experimenting with electronic music while also including acoustic instruments. After several band memberships and three theatre music projects, Frank produced his first Album ‚The Timerewinder‘ in 1994. The LP got released under his alias JFC on Mole Listening Pearls not before 1997 though.
Tom Wax  introduced Frank Cochois to the upcoming label Plastic City in 1995. Next to Terry Lee Brown Jr., The Timewriter would become THE most influential arist in the development of Plastic City as one of the major outlets for TechHouse in Germany and beyond. His albums and mix-compilations have gained The Timewriter an excellent international reputation. Fans and experts alike also agree on his more downbeat-oriented project JFC with releases on Elektrolux a.o.

Jean F. Cochois usually plays minimal/deep house. The many facets of his artist personality are highlighted by his striking ability of amalgamating the deep Soul of Motown with synthetic sound productions. Already in his music boarding school time, he eagerly explored the field of composition and became familiar with the most diverse music styles. He looked up to bands like Depeche Mode, Tears for Fears, Kraftwerk, Alan Parsons, Vangelis and Jean Michelle Jarre. As other important sources of inspiration he includes Bands like Roxy Music (Bryan Ferry) and Marillion (Fish) who fascinate him with their slight tendency towards melancholy and calming seriousness.

Life sucks. Deep House Doesn't

And now, a bit with the "boring" stuff:
Deep house is a subgenre of house music that fuses elements of Chicago into the 1980s jazz-funksoul music. In the early compositions (1988—89), influences of jazzmusic were most frequently brought out by using more complex chords than simple triads (7ths, 9ths, 13ths, suspensions, alterations) which are held for many bars and give compositions a slightly dissonant feel. Later deep house tracks (1993—94) were also heavily influenced by disco and even merged into a disputable disco house genre.and touches of
The use of vocals became more common in deep house than in many other forms of house music. Sonic qualities include soulful vocals, slow and concentrated dissonant melodies, smooth, stylish, and chic demeanor.
Deep house hardly reaches a climax, but lingers on as a comfortable relaxing sound. (with or without vocals)

Is a blog where Deep House Lovers can express their feelings through this wonderful music.
